From a lovely welcome to our departure, we couldn't fault a thing
What a wonderful stay we have had at The Rising Sun. From a lovely welcome to our departure, we couldn't fault a thing. The staff were all so pleasant and helpful. Our room had everything we could need for a comfortable stay. The food was excellent, with locally sourced ingredients all beautifully cooked, from delicious breakfasts to exceptional evening dinners. Very well done, we loved it!
Viv on TripAdvisorAbsolutely perfect, and the real punch comes from the kitchen
Absolutely perfect! As everything I will write about the Rising Sun will be the same verdict, I could finish my review there. Everything from the moment we arrived until we left was amazing. A friendly welcome, a beautiful room with fabulous views over the little harbour and coastline, a 'shockingly' comfortable bed and clean modern shower room. The bar had a great selection of delicious beers, and a really good choice of quality wines. But the real punch comes from the kitchen! As a rule, we never eat in the restaurant of the hotel we're staying in. We stayed at The Rising Sun for 3 nights and ate in The Rising Sun for 3 nights! The food was phenomenal! The seafood chowder brimmed with fresh fish, as was the Fish Pie. The mushroom and tarragon pate was a work of genius! The locally sourced lamb rump was trying to jump off the plate, it was so fresh, but possibly my favourite, the stuffed pork tenderloin with accompanying pork and black pudding sausage roll! Sounds 'working class', British cooking at its best!
Hugh on TripAdvisorWe've always dreamed of staying here and it didn't disappoint
We normally camp but this year we chose the Rising Sun for our Easter Break. Perfectly located with wonderful sea views from our room. This chocolate box inn is superbly cosy yet with more than a hint of piracy. In fact, climbing the stairs to our room and navigating the tilting hallway put me in mind of old galleons. Our room was nicely furnished with a good en-suite shower room and a cute window seat. The room was small but clean. It must be hard to clean all the nooks and crannies of such an ancient building but think they nailed it. Definitely due for some redecoration though as many scuffs and dents on the walls. The carpet on stairs and landing needs taking away and left as wood in my opinion. We had a fabulous meal there on our first night and the breakfasts were great too. We've always dreamed of staying here and it didn't disappoint.
Liz on TripAdvisorThe best ploughman’s I’ve ever had!
We were staying at Lynton and got the delightful cliff railway down to Lynmouth, we stopped here for a quick drink but on looking at the menu, we decided to stay for lunch. The best ploughman’s I’ve ever had, everything was homemade. Hubby had crab sandwiches, thick, chunky bread and utterly delicious. We highly recommend eating here, the food is amazing. The setting of the pub is in a beautiful location, right beside the sea, very traditional inside, just my favourite type of pub.
Vicky on TripAdvisorA great historic hotel next to the pier
A great historic hotel next to the pier, it was a great experience. The food was very good, the staff very friendly, and the room was in very good condition and clean. Great place to stay if you're travelling to Lynmouth! The pub is spectacular too! I highly recommend visiting/staying at this place!!
